Stace Dumoski
When I was in the fourth grade, I walked into a wardrobe and never came out again. That was the year I first read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, wrote my first novel, and was told I should be a writer. I never got over any of it—I’ve been inventing worlds and characters and stories ever since.
After completing my degree in Medieval Studies at Mount Holyoke College and pursuing graduate work in Folklore and Mythology, I founded Phantastes: The Online Journal of Fantasy Criticism in 1999, one of the first publications on the web devoted solely to fantasy literature. Phantastes featured articles and interviews with authors including Guy Gavriel Kay, Stephen R. Donaldson, Kate Elliott, Jeffrey Ford, and Terri Windling, and was named a best online resource three consecutive years in The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror anthology series.
My professional writing and editing career spans over two decades, including positions as Managing Editor at Stampington & Company, where I helmed five consumer craft magazines, and Lead Story Developer at Skotos Tech, where I designed the multiplayer online RPG Castle Marrach. Today, I specialize in developmental editing for fantasy novels, bringing both scholarly understanding and practical craft expertise to help writers strengthen their stories.
Through Magic & Ink and the Analog Writers Club, I share my passion for fantasy craft, worldbuilding, and the intersection of wonder and storytelling. I believe fantasy doesn’t help us escape reality—it helps us navigate it, stripping away preconceptions to explore profound truths in worlds we create together.
