		<description>It amused me to see the faux-European shopping area in San Jose, when I visited. It was far too perfect and new and bright to actually feel European.

I tend to think the fancy buildings and wonders in Europe would have had the effect of cowing the poor and inspiring the rich. Perhaps they do so even now.</description>
