#9 of 30: Lucy
Well, I couldn’t drawing Anna without drawing her sister, too, could I?

I used a school picture for this one as well. The mouth is seriously wrong, but honestly I don’t know if that’s entirely due to my drawing. Lucy smiles kinda funny when having her picture taken. What I really need is to use a picture of her giving me the look.
I drew eyelashes on Lucy, but not on Anna, because Lucy has these really long, thick, dark eyelashes that just frame her eyes. Anna’s eyelashes, on the other hand, are blond and all but disappear when you look at her. She’s going to envy her sister for that when she gets older!
Again, I should have left off the long nose line.
After I finished this picture (and I flaked on the hair again, didn’t I?) I came to the realization that I really don’t want to draw pictures of actual people anymore. The temptation is too strong to try and make it look realistic, which is next to impossible with this style of drawing, so I am always disappointed with the results. When you consider the sketch that started this thing and also my earlier sketch of Robin (who in retrospect looks like a bug-eyed freak, but a very nicely drawn bug-eyed freak), the style is almost cartoonish in nature, as opposed to realistic portraiture. And I like it that way.
The upshot is from now on I’m going to focus on drawing my (or your) characters (which was the whole point of this anyway) instead of just copying photos. I’ll still use the photos as reference, but worry less about capturing a true resemblance and focus more on conveying a sense of who the character is.
As a final note, I’m taking Thursday and Friday off from work, so I’ll be four days without access to a reliable computer. I’ve got two drawings done that I will try to scan and upload tonight before I leave, and if I’ll make an attempt to scan at home with my fitful PC, but I can’t guarantee anything. I’m setting this to post on Thursday, and the others over the weekend, so you won’t be deprived of my presence for all that time. I know, you were really worrying about that, weren’t you?
Thank you, everyone, for putting up with me!

Again, I like this one, esp. the eyes. It looks so much like you!
